Here are a few testimonials of how the choir has enhanced the lives of choir members, and the joy that a good old Monday night sing has brought them:
I was hooked the moment I first walked through the doors. I got goosebumps that first night. I had sung in many choirs back in Canada, but never an all-male choir, I knew instantly I had found my “happy place” for singing. I was enthusiastically welcomed into the choir. I look forward to Monday nights not only for the singing but the fun banter and camaraderie I simply can’t stress enough how joining the choir has enhanced my life. Bill S
As a newcomer to Minehead, I would highly recommend any man who can hold a tune to come and join our Male Voice Choir. Monday nights are great fun and I can guarantee a warm welcome, great camaraderie along with the opportunity to learn to sing in harmony coached by a very dedicated musical director.I have developed a love for singing and can honestly say that joining this choir is one of the best things I have ever done!Paul F
My name is Ray B and something happened to me recently which, unknowingly at the time, would change my life for ever. I went along to listen to a practice session by the Minehead Male Voice Choir.
I have the disadvantage of being registered blind. Even though I have good peripheral vision, I cannot see anything directly in front of me, it is just a grey mist. Despite this, I was made very welcome by all and was found a seat in the middle of the tenor section of the choir. It was an absolute joy to sit amongst these wonderful voices and listen to them practice.
I listened to them for about 40 minutes but I did not know any of the songs; a good job really as I was scared to join in anyway.
Eventually there came a song called “It’s Now or Never” sung by Elvis Presley back in the 1960s. I realised that it was now or never for me and decided to join in. To my amazement, surrounded by these wonderful singers, I found that it was not difficult for me to sing in tune. I became more confident and joined in again when “Amazing Grace” was sung. Throughout the session I could not see to read the words on the song sheets. I decided to make it my goal in life to learn all the regular songs that they sing in their concerts. T enable me to do this I have since bought a hand held recorder and I can now learn the songs by simply listening to them at my leisure. This method of learning has become an absolute turning point in my life and I enjoy it tremendously.
Now, each time I attend a practice session of the choir, it raises my spirits and lifts my heart realising that, one day, I will be able to actually join in and sing along with them at one if their concerts.
If you have never been in a choir before, please come along on a Monday evening and give it a try. There is no audition and you will be made most welcome. Believe me, it will change your life for the better; it is such an amazing experience.Ray B
I joined the choir in September 2021 shortly after moving to Minehead. I had sung previously in a mixed choir so knew all the positive benefits singing provides. First impression was “This is serious” but was immediately invited to join the next trip to Cornwall. (I’ve been twice now!)
First impression was quickly dispelled and very soon enjoyed the camaraderie and just taking part. It’s very much like a sports team with the mutual support (and banter!) and a significant number go to the pub after practice. Tonsils need lubrication!
We are very well led – Jackie always gets the best out of everyone. So, give it a go. I’m glad that I did.David B
I have been with the choir around 20 years and enjoyed every minute of it. There is no audition and I opted to sing as a Baritone. I was assigned a Baritone member to help me through in the early days which took the pressure off. The choir has grown steadily and we have a wonderful choir leader who has steadily raised the quality of the choir.
THE CHOIR - what a great bunch of lads with plenty of amusement and laughs amid some wonderful singing. We sing a wide range of songs ranging from popular to spiritual. We will offer you a warm welcome and you will wonder why you did not join sooner.
Welcome aboard

I joined the choir in 2018 quite late in life at 71 years old. I wish I had joined before. It's very therapeutic; good for the soul, I think. I certainly feel it improves my wellbeing.
I came to an Open Evening in July. I remember I became quite emotional when I sang one of the hymns. I don't know why; I think it was the special sound and feeling you get from a Male Voice Choir, especially singing in harmony.
Now I look forward to Monday evening practice sessions and concerts. I get a great feeling of pride when we sing in concerts. It's very uplifting to feel that the sound the choir makes is appreciated by the public after all our weekly practice sessions. We sing a great variety of songs from traditional to popular musicals.
So come and join us - you will be made very welcome.

I was a late starter – I’ve always loved singing along to pop songs but never got the chance to be involved in a choir. When I was about 50, I decided to look for a male voice choir and eventually found the City of Coventry MVC. I later joined the Leamington Spa Royal Navy MVC. I enjoyed the challenge of learning the words and music to our repertoire. In 2014, we moved to Minehead and found the Minehead Male Voice Choir.
Joining the choir has been one of the best “life” moves – being part of a group of guys, the health benefits of singing and receiving instruction/guidance from Jackie, our Director of Music. Don’t know what could be better.

Being a member (since 2018) of the Minehead Male Voice Choir has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Not only has it given me the chance to improve my singing through top-quality tuition from our musical director, Jackie, but it has also provided a wonderful platform to build lasting friendships. The camaraderie within the group of 50 members is truly special, and performing our diverse repertoire at public concerts brings a sense of pride and accomplishment.
In addition to the musical aspect, the choir has been a fantastic boost for my mental well-being. The rehearsals are a great way to unwind, and the sense of community is uplifting. Our social trips to international male voice choir festivals and tours to other parts of the UK outside of our base in Somerset, have added a whole new layer of fun and bonding.
It’s not just about the music—it’s about being part of a supportive, vibrant group that enriches both the mind and the soul. Please do consider joining us soon!
