Minehead Male Voice Choir

Minehead Male Voice Choir was founded in 2000 by Robert Green and Keith Halstead and started with around 12 members. We now have around 40 members.

In July 2010 both Robert and Keith retired and were replaced by Jacqueline Butterworth (Musical Director) and Phyllis Barclay, who has stepped down as accompanist but will still remain as deputy accompanist.

Jacqueline trained as a teacher at Christ Church College, Canterbury specialising in music and singing. She became principal soloist with local operatic societies and has sung solos in sacred works with choral groups as well as singing as a guest with the MMVC.

Phyllis has had a lifetime of experience in music. She taught for about thirty years as a music specialist in Primary Education. Phyllis has now retired, although she will always be available if the need arises.

Monika Balogh replaced Phyllis in October 2015 . Monika was originally from Hungary and holds two Masters Degrees in music from the University of Pecs. She currently teaches piano, singing and theory of music privately and at schools in Minehead area.

The choir membership has now grown to around 40 singing members but we are always looking to expand and will offer a warm welcome to anyone wishing to join us. (Click here for our current membership)

Feel free to attend a rehearsal and listen in to see if you will enjoy it. All you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to be trained. No auditions are necessary.

We meet at the Alcombe Methodist Church, Alcombe, Minehead every Monday from between 7.30pm and 9.30pm including a tea interval.

Concerts

We perform around 10 – 12 concerts annually and raise thousands of pounds for charity. You can find details of the past few year's concerts on our 'Archive' page.

Concert programmes are varied and will include an enjoyable mix of songs ranging from traditional to show songs, spirituals and ballads. We often also have a soloist and possibly a reading. There are no set charges for a concert but we would appreciate a donation.
